Brass Instrument Repair
Brass Monkey Music in Buffalo, NY repairs trumpets and cornets — student through professional. Services include ultrasonic cleaning, valve and slide alignment, dent removal, soldering, polishing, lacquer touch-ups, and stuck slide and valve removal.
Nothing is more frustrating than a valve that sticks or a slide that won’t move the way you want. Usually the remedy is an ultrasonic cleaning to remove dirt, residue, and buildup that has accumulated inside the instrument. When more serious work is required, Brass Monkey Music has the knowledge and expertise to diagnose and resolve the problem.
Accidents happen. If part of your instrument is damaged beyond repair, we keep a large supply of OEM and replacement parts both from suppliers and from our own “junkyard” where obsolete instruments donate parts to keep other horns alive. If a part cannot be sourced, we can fabricate one in-shop.
Aligning the valves on a trumpet or cornet can make a big difference. Air travels through the ports in the valves and is directed to different slides to make different pitches. If the ports do not line up with the slides, the passageway for air is diminished, causing resistance the player can feel and the listener can hear. Using precision-cut synthetic foam fit to your specific instrument, we line up the valves perfectly so the air moves as freely as possible.
